It’s Chinese New Year tomorrow, February 8.

Almost a fifth of the world’s population is getting ready to celebrate the Spring Festival with fireworks, red envelopes, lanterns and wishes of good fortune and prosperity for the coming Year of the Monkey.

China and surrounding Asian countries is where most of the action will be. In the midnight hour more fireworks will be set off in China (tonnage) than any other 1 hour period any where else in the world. 200 million Mainland Chinese are expected to travel across the country to be with friends and family and billions of red envelopes will be exchanged.

But celebrations aren’t limited to the Asian region. In London, festivities in Chinatown, Leicester Square and Trafalgar Square are expected to attract around 500,000 people. Sydney’s Chinatown celebrations will attract even more people.
